Our Story
At Floraveda Apothecary we are passionate about preserving the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda and bringing it to you in the form of accessible self-care products that can be easily adopted in one’s daily routine (Dinacharya). Founded by Ayurvedic Practitioner Alida Roussain, each of our products are skillfully handcrafted with true presence and dedication. Floraveda’s small batch remedies are made with practitioner quality Ayurvedic and Western medicinals ensuring that each ingredient is chosen for potency and purpose.
Growing up in rural B.C. Canada, Alida was immersed in the beauty and abundance of nature from a young age. Wildcrafting herbs, mushrooms and berries for use in food, medicine and body care was a joyful and natural part of life. Taught from her mom to always take time to honor and ask permission to harvest a plant, Alida embodied the truth that all beings (plant, animal, human) have a spirit, and must be treated with reverence and respect.
This ethos continues in her practice today when working with plants and people. She firmly believes that in addition to the chemical constituents in an herb being responsible for healing, it is the true spirit, personality and intelligence of the plant that connects with our spirit to teach our body how to function in its natural healthy state. Furthermore, plants can assist us in shifting challenging mental/emotional patterns and can be allies in true personal transformation.
Alongside our products, Floraveda Apothecary aspires to foster a community centered around holistic living and wellness. We strive to educate and empower our customers through Ayurvedic knowledge, herbalism and recipes to embrace a natural lifestyle, one that harmonizes with the rhythms of nature and promotes balance and vitality.
A childhood love of wildcrafting inspired a lifelong devotion to the practice of holistic health and herbalism.
Alida Roussain began her formal education in the healing arts while certifying in Holistic Massage Therapy at Vancouver School of Bodywork & Massage in 2006. While introduced to Ayurvedic medicine during her studies, it was not until she was immersed in a classical Hatha Yoga teacher training and Ayurvedic chef apprenticeship that she began embodying the principles of this amazing science. This naturally led her to dedicating herself to 2 years of intensive study with highly respected Ayurvedic Physician, Dr. Vasant Lad. Further Vitalist and Western Herbal education have added to her skill set. She enjoys supporting clients with both Ayurvedic principles and herbs as well as western botanicals that can be wildcrafted and grown in her beloved garden.
